Nothing is as good as this.

Rizzle Kicks - Mama Do The Hump - Freemasons Remix

Best party track for ages, nice remix, shame the vocal sample isn’t actually something that’s really old.  not that it really matters.

Trailer for LCD Soundsystem documentary ‘Shut Up And Play The Hits’.

I know it’s kinda hipster suicide mega cliché to like LCD but I don’t really know why. I think maybe it’s more of an American thing. Yeah, maybe the kids at the front crying to ‘All My Friends’ is a bit jarring for some people but if that song doesn’t give you a lump in your throat then YOU HAVE A HEART MADE OF FUCKING STONE.

I love LCD. So does my girlfriend. We’ve got the tattoos to prove it. And we don’t care what you think.

Jay-Z - Glory

Aaah, this is dead nice, like.  Didn’t really need the baby crying bit at the end though did it?  And might have just been nicer to give your daughter a normal name.  Not only is it a shit name, but it’ll ruin that game for her where you take your Mums maiden name and your first pets name and make your porn name.

Leonard Cohen - Darkness

I wish I could make a career out of being miserable too.

I don’t smoke no cigarette
I don’t drink no alcohol
I ain’t had much love in years
But that’s always been your call
I don’t miss it, baby
I got no taste for anything at all.

Radio Soulwax

Oh my. Where to start?

I’ve been very slowly downloading each mix whilst passing through Europe, grabbing a bit of shitty wifi where possible so it’s highly likely I’m a bit behind here.

Just got to the first ‘Under The Covers’ and had to stop it after about 13 minutes cuz I thought my brain was going to turn to mush and slowly dribble out my ear onto the nearest Australian. The animated ‘This Is Happening’ album cover made me laugh and cry and wet myself a bit all at the same time. I sneezed once too but that was probably unrelated, but who knows? I don’t underestimate the power of the Dewaele brothers.

James Murphy. Pulling his own hit records out of a bag. Whilst ‘You Wanted A Hit’ is given the Radio Soulwax treatment.
James Murphy. Pulling a copy of ‘Daft Punk…’ out of a bag. Whilst he sings “you wanted a hit. But maybe we don’t do hits” over the top. Animated by Soulwax. Who had a remix on the B-side of that record.
That’s James Murphy. Pulling a copy of ‘Someone Great’ out of a bag. Whilst he sings “I try and try, it ends up feeling kind of wrong” over the top. Animated by Soulwax. Who had a remix on the B-side of that record.

And then he puts those sunglasses on and drinks that cup of tea.

Girls, this is why your boyfriend get excited about music.

SBTRKT

I know this album came out 2 or 3 months back or whatever but I am slack at getting round to things that don’t matter, like writing blog posts. However, I can’t stop listening to this album and feel the need to tell all 23 (generous) of you who will probably read this.

This album has the most incredible sound, something really new and not like anything I’ve listened to before. Apart from obvious single ‘Wildfire’, which sounds like a single, it all sounds like some mental nu-tropical UK garage but I can’t really think of anything to compare it to. I’m sure many people would disagree and say it sounds like this or that but they can fuck off.

I think the guy singing on most of the songs is the same person who does the music but I don’t know. It’s just weird cuz it’s the sort of music that normally would have guest vocals on every song (but definitely nice weird).

There is however one thing that makes this album the best album that’s going to be released this year, and that is the track ‘Sanctuary’. It’s a soaring, spiralling, fucking beautiful piece of music. Totally unconventional with structure and sound.

It sounds like the kind of song you’d write after bombing MDMA and piloting a plane to Ayia Napa in the early 2000’s and asking So Solid if you can join their Crew but getting turned down so you just ride a moped around for ages thinking maybe you should’ve gone to Ibiza but the drugs are better here and the moods a lot more intense which you kind of prefer anyway so you score some acid and lie on the beach all day and watch people strutting and posing and thinking maybe you should fly yourself home but you can’t really deal with sorting all that out until you get this weird buzzing out of your head which means having to buy a cheap casio keyboard that runs off 8 AAA batteries which are super hard to find but when you do you’re so happy this fucking mental song just pours out of your brain.

I just can’t think of another way this song would have come into someone’s head.

Oh and also in ‘Hold On’ when he says “you always were down for it” it makes me want to hug someone. I keep listening to this album end to end and then starting again.

WILEY - NUMBERS IN ACTION

Move over Minaj!  This is my new favourite song of all week.  And the best video for fucking ages.
I reckon I’d get on well with Wiley, if he met me, he’d definitely  want to stay in touch, just to hang out or have a coffee or whatever.

NICKI MINAJ - SUPER BASS

said, excuse me you’re a hell of a guy
I mean my, my, my, my like pelican fly
I mean, you’re so shy and I’m loving your tie
You’re like slicker than the guy with the thing on his eye

That’s why I like this song.
